About Me

I first became interested in bookkeeping in March of 2020 when I started Aanstad Law with my friend, Robin Aanstad.  I managed the implementation of Quickbooks for the firm, input billing entries, prepared invoices and ran payroll. With a minor in Accounting, I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this challenge. Over the past few years, I have also supported family members with their small business bookkeeping needs. In late 2024, my fiancé and I relocated to Bismarck, North Dakota for his new job. Realizing the limited local opportunities for my skill set, I launched Rebecca Shelkey Bookkeeping. Building the business remotely has been a tremendous advantage—when we moved to Minot in July of 2025, my work with clients continued seamlessly, without any disruption.

Starting my own business was a smooth process, thanks to my 20 years of experience as a paralegal assisting business owners with setup and witnessing their creative visions come to life. I have also guided numerous friends and family members through the business formation process.

After earning my Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies with a minor in Accounting, I began my career in collections at a consumer debt law firm in the Twin Cities.  I guess you could say it's followed me since then. My collections career continued with a prominent firm in Fargo, North Dakota, where I gained expertise in non-consumer collections, specifically recovering high- judgment balances for clients.

While not working, my fiancé and I enjoy traveling, exploring new restaurants and spending quality time with family.
